HideWire vs Powerline Systems
Powerline uses your existing electrical wiring to carry your network. HideWire gives your data its own fibre connection: a discreet, dedicated route between rooms with 2.5Gbps device ports and a fibre link up to 10Gbps.
At a glance
| Speed | HideWire | Powerline |
|---|---|---|
| Device ports | 2,500Mbps | 1,000Mbps* |
| Real world speeds | 10Gbps | 117–456Mbps* (Depends on circuit) |
| Link rating | 10,000Mbps | 2,000–2,400Mbps* |
*TP-Link AV2000 and Devolo Magic 2 test examples. Results vary by wiring and distance. Port and link ratings are not measured throughput.
Your wiring affects the result
Powerline performance depends on the electrical path between sockets. Distance and electrical noise can reduce throughput, so the speed printed on the box does not tell you what you will get in a particular room.
A dedicated connection
HideWire carries the data over fibre instead of the mains. Electrical interference does not affect the fibre run. Its switches provide 2.5Gbps device ports, linked by fibre at up to 10Gbps.
One run, several devices
Run the fibre to your desk or television and connect your devices to the supplied switch. You can also connect a Wi-Fi access point or mesh node that supports wired backhaul. The fibre attaches with clear removable fasteners; there is no wall chasing.
